Sebastian Ryall came back to haunt his former club as his late goal gave Sydney a 2-2 draw at Melbourne Victory in the A-League on Thursday.
Victory looked set for the win when they scored twice through Isaka Cernak and an own goal from Sydney keeper Liam Reddy in the space of two minutes on the cusp of half-time.
But Sydney, who had by far the better chances throughout the encounter at AAMI Park, finally responded on 56 minutes through Bruno Cazarine.
The visitors needed until the 90th minute to draw level with defender Ryall scoring his first-ever A-League goal after a scramble in the box, denying Jim Magilton his first win as Victory boss.
Ryall, a championship-winning defender before leaving Victory in 2009, put in the equaliser minutes after coming on.
It was a point which was richly deserved by Vitezslav Lavicka s men, who played by far the better football, only to fall behind after lapses late in the first half.
Sydney remain sixth the last finals spot and are four points clear of Victory, who have a game in hand on their rivals.
